The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the EU has recently announced a new vacancy for a forestry sector expert at its headquarters in Ispra, Italy. More specifically, the position is of a scientific project officer within the Land Resources & Supply Chain Assessments Unit of the Sustainable Resources Directorate. It is the primary objective of the Unit to accumulate scientific data supporting policy-making in the field of sustainable natural resource exploitation.
As for the post itself, it focuses on assessing forest-based industries in Europe and beyond at present and in the future, furthering understanding on the evolution of the corresponding value chains, environmental changes and technological innovations. The main research streams the chosen candidate will be asked to delve into are:

traditional and novel wood-based product supply chains in EU countries;

demand, interactions and competition for primary and secondary feedstocks across the wood-based industry for wood products and wood energy;

impact on harvesting and forest management practices in the EU;

environmental sustainability assessments related to the life cycle of both traditional and innovative wood products using quantitative tools.
